Good care starts with small habits.

For homeowners in Stockton, Lodi, and nearby communities, this is a relaxed place to learn about solid and engineered hardwood. You don’t need to know the wood species or the finish to get started.

Keep grit off the floor.

Use clean entry mats and sweep with a soft tool or vacuum with a hardwood-safe attachment. Check furniture pads regularly so trapped grit doesn’t travel across the finish.

Know your finish first.

Follow your floor and finish manufacturer’s care instructions. Use a cleaner intended for that finish, avoid soaking the floor, and wipe spills promptly. If you’re unsure what’s on the floor, ask before trying a new treatment.

Notice changes early.

Dull traffic paths, worn areas, or boards that change shape are worth a closer look. A photo can help start the conversation; some questions need an in-person inspection.

Does a dull floor always need sanding?

Not necessarily. The condition of the wood, wear in the existing finish, previous products, and coating compatibility all matter. A deep clean and screen recoat may suit some floors; deeper damage may need a different approach. Testing comes before choosing a treatment.

Can engineered hardwood be refinished?

Sometimes. The wear layer, previous sanding, construction, and overall condition determine what is possible. We assess the actual floor before recommending sanding.

What if I don’t know what finish I have?

That’s common. Share any product names, past work records, or photos you have. Avoid applying wax, polish, or a new coating until the existing finish and compatibility have been assessed.

Photos help us offer initial guidance; they cannot confirm moisture conditions, finish compatibility, or whether a floor can safely be sanded. We’ll explain when a closer look is needed.
